Featuring a fly-by-wire throttle, the new CBR250RR will be the first time a small-capacity bike in the entry-level segment can boast switchable engine maps. The modes, likely to be along the lines of normal, rain and sport will allow riders the ability to alter the power to the suit conditions. Initially to be sold only in Indonesia, with Japanese sales to follow, the bike is eventually expected to spawn a worldwide model with a larger, 350cc engine to take on rivals like the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300, and the ability to reduce the output in wet or slippery conditions will likely be an attractive feature for new or learning riders. Apart from its internal engine dimensions, the worldwide version will be virtually identical to the CBR250RR you see here. If you think the shape looks familiar, that’s because Honda previewed the design with its Light Weight Super Sport concept, revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. The styling, engine and chassis are basically identical, proving that the concept’ from last year was really little more than a bejewelled version of the production model. Of course, the concept bike’s carbon-fibre eye-candy is gone, replaced by textured plastics, and the production bike features lights – something that were notably missing from the concept. It also gets a more user-friendly pillion seat and an emissions-certified exhaust instead of the concept’s Akrapovič can. The tubular-steel frame is identical to the concept’s, as is the Gull Arm swingarm and the upside down fork, although the latter gains a gold coating that gives a high-end appearance. Don’t be fooled, though; this is budget suspension as befits a bike set to be an entry-level model in Honda’s sportsbike range. Adjustability is limited to preload, and only at the back. The engine is entirely new. Although Honda has confirmed it’s a DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder parallel twin, there’s no word on more detailed specifications. Honda says, unsurprisingly, that it’s designed to offer class-leading performance, which suggests a power output that beats the 27kW of the Yamaha R25. Away from Indonesia, where the bike is due on sale before the end of this year, we’re expecting to see a big-bore version with a capacity of around 350cc. That will aim to beat the output of the 321cc Yamaha R3. It may also gain improved suspension specs, although Honda will still have a keen eye on the price point of the bike, so don’t expect miracles. Unique in its class is the LED headlight, which is believed to hint – along with the rest of the bike’s styling – at the appearance of the much-anticipated new CBR1000RR Fireblade that’s due to make its debut towards the end of this year. The new CBR250RR, although unconfirmed for India, is expected to be launched sometime next year in a trimmed-down format. The styling for the new motorcycle is sharp and edgy, making it a standout in the 250cc motorcycle segment. With a 1,389 mm wheelbase, the CBR250RR has a ground clearance of 145 mm and a seat height of 790 the official website hasn’t published power output figures, the engine is a cc liquid-cooled, 8-valve, parallel-twin unit. The engine runs a compression ratio and and the fuel-injected motor is mated to a six-speed transmission. Interestingly, the CBR250RR features throttle-by-wire, which uses sensors instead of wires for throttle operation. Performance figures too haven’t been disclosed yet but equipped with a new Truss frame, the lightweight motorcycle is claimed to offer segment-leading CBR250RR’s suspension includes inverted telescopic units upfront and a mono-shock at the rear. Hydraulic single-disc at the front and rear is combined with ABS as standard and the front and rear tyres are rated at 110/70-17 and 140/70-17, respectively. While there is no official word, the CBR250RR seems unlikely to be launched in India in its present format as with its modern electronic features, the price tag might be too high to be competitive. We could however see a stripped-down version of this motorcycle minus some of the electronic options in order to keep the cost in check. – 2017 CBR250RR Pictures & Engine HP & TQ, Transmission, Frame, Suspension Details – It’s FINALLY Official! Honda has let the cat out of the bag on this all new 250cc SuperSport CBR! If you have been hiding under a rock the last year, you may have missed all of the hype about the “Light Weight Super Sports Concept” motorcycle that Honda unveiled last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. Honda teased us with not giving any details on the bike and of course this meant that rumors went soaring into the inter-webs with people hoping and guessing what might come to be of this concept motorcycle. There was no guarantee that we would even see it as a production motorcycle as I’m sure you know that the majority of concept and prototype motorcycles never make it to that point to where they roll off the production line. Let’s get to what we know about the 2017 CBR250RR at this time… The CBR250RR will be manufactured in its major market, Indonesia, making it the largest displacement Honda motorcycle to be manufactured in the country. Honda plans to begin sales of the all-new sports model in Indonesia by the end of 2016. Honda is planning to release the CBR250RR in Japan at a later date. “Indonesia was chosen as the first country in the world that manufactures and launches model flagship Honda in category supersport this. This is clear evidence of the nation’s work has met international standards and compete in the global market,” said Executive Vice President Director AHM Loman. Is the 2017 CBR250RR coming to the USA? Nobody knows… Well, someone does but not anyone that is willing to open up their mouth and say so just yet. Personally, I hope it comes to our side of the pond. Actually, let me go ahead and get my begging out of the way and kiss a little butt… Please Honda If you’re reading this, I need this bike in my garage! – 2017 CBR250RR Performance UPDATE / EDIT – Thanks to this “leaked” picture above of the 2017 CBR250RR spec sheet we finally have the exact performance numbers for the all-new CBR 250RR! Here’s what we’re looking at when it comes to the 17′ CBR2500RR HP & TQ figures 2017 CBR250RR Horsepower – HP 12,500 RPM 2017 CBR250RR Torque – TQ ft/lb 10,500 RPM 2017 CBR250RR Features CBR250RR Newly Developed Parallel-twin Engine & Electronic The CBR250RR is powered by a newly developed water-cooled 4-stroke 4-valve straight-twin DOHC 250cc engine, which aims for class-leading output performance. The engine is easy to handle for urban riding, while it is just as comfortable on the circuit, with smooth output characteristics across the entire revrange. In addition, its Throttle-by-Wire TBW system and selectable 3-way engine mode settings allow the rider to tap into its linear power output at will, for a superior, solid acceleration. To make the engine very compact, many technologies were applied such as laid primary driver gears for the cam chain, oil pump on the right side that is integrated with the machine, the respiratory machine behind the cylinder, and put a water pump in the cylinder head as applied in RC213V. The width of the new 2-cylinder engine is almost identical to the one-cylinder engine in the same capacity, thanks to the technology applied in this new 2017 CBR250RR engine. Another significant part in the layout of the power unit is Downdraft air intake. The air filter was removed from its usual position behind the cylinder and is now placed above the cylinder, the air intake has reduced resistance and provides optimal flow throughout the speed range. To offer optimal control in any situation, Honda has implemented the latest technology that is throttle-by-wire , known as TBW. The 2017 CBR250RR is the first model in its class to have a TBW system. This feature helps bring in a more precise feel when rolling on the throttle compared to its counterpart. The Accelerator Position Sensor APS detects and automatically sends electrical signals to the ECU. This system is also applied to the RC213V. CBR250RR Unique Styling presenting Strong and Fast Appearance The CBR250RR’s front face inherits the CBR series’ identity with its dual-LED headlights, enhancing its strong, fast and exciting image. The sharp wedge-shape leading from its low, long nose to its high, acute tail inspire awe in the eyes of the onlooker. The styling of this model adapted from the evolution of each function together with the latest technological development. Their design theme “Speed Shape” presents an attractive and functional appearance that gives a pleasurable riding experience before you’re even moving. Sharp lines are seen starting from the bottom, the front to the rear silhouette are tapered to present an aggressive presence. Honda is tapping into their recently adopted “layered cowl”, to optimize the flow of air while riding to better aid the engine cooling process and also contribute to optimal control and feedback. In terms of design, Honda has always given priority to the results of each function, so the styling is determined through a deep understanding of the function of each part. Styling fundamentally contributes to the motorcycle when maneuvering. Honda makes the design from the outside, then proceeds to the frame, the engine and the suspension. CBR250RR Newly Developed Frame and Suspension The CBR250RR’s newly designed steel pipe truss frame realizes both strength and flexibility. Its swing arms are Aluminum gull arms, and with the right-side swing arm shaped to reduce exhaust pipe extrusion, allows the bike to be slimmer, while retaining bank angle. The suspension features high rigidity inverted forks for the front, and Pro-link suspension featuring 5-step preload for the rear. For the brakes, front and rear ABS is available for the ABS model. Large 310mm diameter front and 240mm diameter rear wave discs provide outstanding stopping-power. The frame design features the latest steel pipe structure to ensure strength and flexibility while helping in stability for optimal control. The swing arm type is a gull-arm made of aluminum through the process of Gravity Dies Casting GDC which results in a reduction of the overall weight. It also helps with the exhaust layout to be closer to the center of gravity while still optimizing the tilt angle when maneuvering. The swinging arm connected with the main frame using Pro-Link suspension. The front suspension is an inverted fork from Showa with the size coming in at 37mm that helps reduce the un-sprung weight. The CBR250RR 7- spoke wheels are designed exclusively for this CBR with the emphasis in weight reduction. Published Friday, March 27, 2020, 2030 [IST] Honda CBR250RR 2020 has been unveiled globally. The new motorcycle was unveiled globally in a Honda Virtual Motorcycle Show. The 2020 CBR250RR produces more power than its predecessor and features new styling and equipment. The company decided to host a virtual motorcycle show amidst the current Covid-19 outbreak. Along with the CBR250RR 2020 model, the company also showcased the new CT125 Hunter Cub and CBR1000RR-R Fireblade at the Honda Virtual Motorcycle Show' event. The 2020 CBR250RR borrows its design inspiration from its elder sibling in the company's line up, the CBR1000RR-R. It features a combination of red, blue and white graphic paint scheme to mimic the company's HRC WorldSBK motorcycle. Other features include split-LED headlamp cluster, double-barrel-exhausts, gold-coloured fork, brake discs and wheels. The fully-faired motorcycle also features a fully-digital instrument cluster offering a host of information to the rider. The 2020 CBR250RR now features a new 250cc parallel-twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It now produces a maximum power output of - a 3bhp increase from the older model. Although the torque figures were not revealed at the time of unveiling, we expect the new motorcycle to produce more than which is the torque output on the older model. The engine will continue to come mated with a 6-speed gearbox. However, the new motorcycle will feature a factory-fitted slipper assist clutch. It will also continue to come equipped with an optional bi-directional quick shifter, and ride-by-wire throttle system as well. The motorcycle features three riding modes Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. The suspension duties on the motorcycle are handled by UpSide-Down forks at the front and a mono-shock suspension supported by an aluminium swingarm at the rear. Braking on the motorcycle is done through petal discs at both ends supported by a dual-channel ABS. The Honda CBR250RR is being sold only in the Asian markets. Unfortunately, India is not a part of that list. The New CBR250RR is expected to be priced at 847,000 yen, which is around Rs lakh. With the hefty price tag for a 250cc motorcycle, it will be not feasible for a price-sensitive market as ours. Thoughts About The Honda CBR250RR 2020 Unveiled Globally The Honda CBR 250 is one among the popular bikes in the Indian market. But the motorcycle offered very less in terms of standard equipment as compared to its rivals. The CBR250RR is certainly an exceptional motorcycle featuring performance equipment. However, with the hefty price tag, we could never see the lights' of CBR250RR shining its way on the Indian roads. Image Courtesy Young Machine Honda CBR250RR vs Yamaha YZF-R25 Here is a quick comparison between the Honda CBR250RR and the Yamaha YZF-R25 to help you choose the right motorcycle that suits you! Having a hard time deciding whether to go for the Yamaha YZF-R25 or the Honda CBR250RR? Worry not! In this article, we will be doing a full A-Z comparison between the YZF-R25 and CBR250RR to help you pick the right motorcycle! To keep the comparison fair, we will be using the Malaysia-spec 2020 Yamaha YZF-R25 and recently launched Honda CBR250RR. Yamaha YZF-R25 vs CBR250RR Hong Leong Yamaha Motor first launched the 250cc fully faired sports bike, the Yamaha YZF-R25 in Malaysia almost 2 years ago in January 2019. On the other hand, the Honda CBR250RR is a fairly new bike in Malaysia. In fact, the Honda CBR250RR was just launched a month ago in December 2020. Design Starting with the design, both the YZF-R25 and the CBR250RR are quarter-litre fully-faired sports bikes from Yamaha and Honda, therefore, they both get a full fairing design from the ground up. The Yamaha YZF-R25 follows the design of Yamaha’s R-range sports bikes similar to this, the CBR250RR follows the design of the bigger CBR bikes. That being said, the R25 gets sporty fairing all around and looks a lot like a downsized version of Yamaha’s bigger R-range of bikes. On the other hand, the CBR250RR follows the same trend, however, in comparison, the fairing design on the CBR250RR is much sharper than the R25. In the case of the riding position, as both these bikes fall under the sports bike category, therefore, they both accommodate the rider in a head-and-shoulders forward-leaning riding position. Speaking of seating, both the CBR250RR and R25 comes with a two-piece two-step sporty seat design. Upfront the YZF-R25 gets a twin led headlamp unit whereas the CBR250RR gets a bit more aggressive double-layered dual LED headlight. Moving to the rear, both the R25 and CBR250RR come with LED taillamp units enclosed within their narrow tail section. Chassis, Wheels and Tyres Underneath the YZF-R25 is built around Yamaha’s steel diamond frame and an aluminium swingarm. On the other hand, the CBR250RR is built around a steel truss frame and an aluminium swingarm as well. Note, unlike the delta box frame on the YZF-R15, the R25 features a steel diamond frame which is very similar in nature to CBR250RR’s steel truss structure. In the case of wheels, both the CBR250RR and YZF-R25 roll in 17-inch wheels. As for the tyres, they both come equipped with 110/70 front tyre and 140/70 rear tyre. Suspension and brakes Moving on to the suspension, the Yamaha R25 features gold anodised telescopic inverted front fork and a pre-load adjustable mono-shock at the rear 7 settings. On the other hand, the CBR250RR features a 37mm inverted telescopic front fork and a 5-way adjustable mono-shock at the rear with Pro-link. On the CBR250RR, braking is done via a 2 piston Nissin calliper with 310mm disc up front and a Nissin single-piston calliper with 210mm disc at the rear. Two-channel ABS is also standard on the Honda CBR250RR. Meanwhile, the YZF-R25 does not get ABS in Malaysia and braking is done via a 2 piston calliper with 300mm disc up front and a single-piston calliper with 220mm disc at the rear. Engine Moving to the oily bits, the YZF-R25 is powered by a two-cylinder 249 cc, 8 Valve DOHC, liquid-cooled engine. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the R25 pushes hp 12,000 rpm and a peak torque of Nm 10,000 rpm. Note, in Malaysia, the YZF-R25 doesn’t come with assist and slipper clutch nor the VVA system. The Honda CBR250RR, on the other hand, is powered by a 250cc twin-cylinder DOHC 8-valve engine, mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the CBR250RR puts out hp 13,000 rpm and a peak torque of 25 Nm 11,000 rpm. Unlike the Yamaha R-25, the CBR250RR in Malaysia comes with quick shifter with assist and slipper clutch, throttle by wire and 3 riding modes as standard. Equivalent to Indonesia-spec CBR250RR SP Electronics Starting with the Honda CBR250RR, the model comes with LED lighting and a negative LCD panel with an in-built lap timer. Besides this, as mentioned earlier, the CBR250RR gets dual-channel ABS, throttle by wire, 3 riding modes comfort, sport, sport+ and quick shifter with assist and slipper clutch as standard in Malaysia. [Negative display As opposed to standard LCD panel letters/characters on negative LCD panels are presented in lighter colour over a darker background.] On the other hand, the YZF-R25 gets LED lighting and a standard LCD instrument panel. Unlike the CBR250RR, the YZF-R25 does not get ABS, assist and slipper clutch, TWB, or any ride modes in Malaysia. Dimensions Last but not least, the dimensions. This is definitely something to look for when deciding between these two. Dimension wise the YZF-R25 measures 2,090mm x 720mm x 1,135mm LXWXH. On the other hand, measuring 2,060 X 724 X 1,098, the CBR250RR is slightly wider and shorter than it’s rival, R25. Seat height on the YZF-R25 is 780mm and 790mm on the CBR250RR. The R25 weighs 166kg wet, meanwhile, the CBR250RR is 2kg heavier at 168kg. Fuel is contained in a tank on the R25 and a slightly larger tank on the CBR250RR. Colour option and pricing The Yamaha YZF-R25 is currently offered in 2 colours, Matt silver and Matt Blue. However, since the R25 has been in Malaysia for quite some time, you can find older stocks in numerous other colours. The ongoing 2020 Yamaha YZF-R25 that’s currently on sale is priced at RM 19,998 excluding road tax, insurance and registration fee. As the Honda CBR250RR is fairly new, it is available only in two colours; Winning Red and Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic. Priced at RM 25,999 excluding road tax, insurance and registration fee, the CBR250RR is nearly RM 6,000 more expensive than the R25. So which bike is for you? Besides being a part of the quarter-litre sports bike quad, these two bikes are completely different in every other aspect. Whether it’s in terms of design or mechanical components, just like their elder siblings the YZF-R25 and CBR250RR both stand out on their own. This is one of the reasons why Yamaha’s R range and Honda’s CBR range of sports bike have been rivalling each other for years. The Honda CBR250RR is a well equipped quarter-litre sports bike because it packs an array of techs such as; dual-channel ABS, TWB, 3 riding modes and quick shifter with assist and slipper clutch. However, the competitor, the Malaysia-spec Yamaha YZF-R25 lacks all these features. Besides the features, pushing and 26Nm, the CBR250RR is also more powerful compared to the R25 pushing Nm. Moreover, the aesthetics of the bikes would also be something that you would want to consider. The YZF-R25 has been in the Malaysian market for some time, therefore although it still looks sporty in today’s standard, you might find the design of the new CBR250RR more appealing and attractive. However, all these come at a price, which in this case is the extra RM 6,000. That being said, at the end of the way, it all comes down to your own preference. If your budget is in the RM 20,000 mark and you don’t really mind the lack of tech, then the YZF-R25 is for you. On the other hand, if the budget isn’t an issue and you prefer to have addition rider aids and wants something fresh on the street then the Honda CBR250RR is for you.
